Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake is the largest town in McHenry County. Located along a commuter rail line that ends at far northwestern Harvard, and along the route of a proposed new regional circumferential commuter rail line, Crystal Lake has two existing train stops and a proposed third; but its growth is constrained by old gravel quarries that have been transformed into recreational lakes. Jennifer Pope’s proposal for increasing density and mix of uses via an expanded network of streets and blocks focused upon development in the Three Oaks Recreation Area south of Crystal Lake’s North West Highway.
