Armour Field

Philip Bess

Designed under the sponsorship of the Ballparks Committee of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), this 1987 counter-proposal to what became the new Comiskey Park (later U.S. Cellular Field) was Philip Bess’s argument –expanded in City Baseball Magic— for a baseball park that would preserve, enhance and extend the urban heritage of Chicago White Sox baseball as the center of an expanded and re-developed south-side neighborhood at 35th and Shields.
